Abstract: Growing evidence demonstrates that sleep plays an important, though often unmeasured, role in health and

well being.  Innovations in psychoneuroimmunology are beginning to illuminate the biological mechanisms through which

restorative sleep  bolsters health and sleep deficits increase one’s susceptibility to a cadre of age related illnesses.  The

goals of this presentation are to highlight the intimate connections between sleep and physical health, illustrate how sleep

may modulate the influence of  stress and emotion on immune function, and highlight preliminary intervention effects that

underscore the need to address the sleep-stress nexus in the context of physical health.
