Abstract: Instead of looking up the validity of claims, Stephen Colbert urges viewers to "try looking it up in your gut." This is the process for determining truthiness: "truth that comes from the gut, not books." I review our work showing that a brief exposure to tangentially related photos can promote the truthiness of claims in various domains. Our findings suggest that these tangentially related photos scaffold comprehension and imagery of unfamiliar claims, making fact, fiction and predictions about the future seem more true.
