Abstract: Research on the dynamics of risk regulation in close relationships has focused on the role of reflective trust, expectations about a partner’s caring, on the regulation of closeness and interdependence. There is now evidence that people’s positive automatic attitudes toward a partner function like trust, and indeed, substitute for a person’s reflective trust concerns, especially under reduced cognitive capacity.
